We've got the power............. :)

I'm desperately trying not to make every blog post a blatant link back to some classic piece of music........but in this case it was just too tempting.

Today marks the start of a new era for the house and another milestone in the project.....the house has just been re-connected to the grid for the first time in over 30 years. Yes that's right we have electricity!

Whilst I can't verify the claim just yet, as kath last posted, my dad and I are due out there in just over a weeks time to do some second fix work and our trusted local electrician is currently wiring up the ground floor and basement from one of my layout drawings so hopefully it will look the same 😗

There was at one point an electrical connection to the property in the early 80's and prior to taking possession of the house we tried to see if we could get it reconnected but upon looking for the fuseboard we realised the whole house was protected by just a single fuse In between the grid connection and the meter!! Eek. Not sure how you'd ever change it if blew without killing yourself in the process or shutting down the whole town 😳

Most houses on Norway are heated from wood burners and electric with (as far as I know) no national gas grid network. Unbelievably electricity is more than 50% cheaper in Norway than in England which is amazing especially as cheese is more than 50% more expensive!  So how do they manage this ( that's cheap electricity as opposed to the expensive cheese ( I'll save that for another post)) well they sell us Brits the expensive fuel so we can generate expensive electricity burning fossil fuels and instead generate their own from green sources such as hydro electric! Cunning huh.

Now if I can just work out a way to import cheese into the country........

......oh and in the words of that 1990 classic by snap " I've got the power". 😃

Trip for 2.....& not me!

Jim is heading back to the house in a couple of weeks to buy light fittings and panel heaters. He's taking his dad, John, out with him this time to share some of our excitement.

We gave John a comprehensive list of Things To Buy, because It Will Be Cold. So we've had nightly FaceTime calls to check out his salopettes and snow boots - which he is wearing as slippers as they keep his feet warm!
Safe to say, he's excited about the trip.

Ich ee argh

Are you an eye key argh or an ich ee argh? (Ich being the German ick).

Let's put it this way, are you a scone or a scon,  a tomato or a toe mate oh ......no let's not go there....either way they all taste same, or in the case of Trondheim ikea, you still spend a fortune and have to navigate the entire store to get out......on the plus side the meat balls seem to taste better.....less equine then the UK version 😉 .......and in case you're wondering ....the hot dogs are just as good 😋.
